My main responsibility is Care, Custody and Control of detainees awaiting trial and or sentencing. When assigned inside the building I oversee detainees on a day to day basic. I am responsible for their care and safety at all times while the detainees are outside of there cells conducting there day to day routines. a few of my other responsibilities include the SERT team (Sheriff's Escort/Emergency Response Team). We respond to all requests for detainees escort to different appointments, meetings and education call through out the facility. Also when the emergency distress alarm is activated by other officers we respond to the situation and deal with any issues that may arise for a safe outcome. Another duty of mine is a transportation officer. While conduction this duty I am responsible for securing the detainees in handcuffs and leg irons safely and effectively, Suffolk County Sheriff's Department Transports over 14,000 detainees per year all over the commonwealth, To and from different courthouses, hospital and doctors offices for various health reasons and appointments. I am also responsible for confirming all legal paperwork associated to the detainee is accurate, complete and in order before, during and after transportation of each detainees. I am apart of the MOP unit (Motorcycles, Special Operations). Our responsibilities include escorts of high ranking department officials, dignitaries, and funeral procession. Crowd control during special events when requested by other law enforcement agencies. I pride myself when becoming a Choice officer over 5 years ago. I attend different schools within our county to speak with the students and staff regarding topics that include but not limited to life struggles, gang affiliations, bullying, drugs, domestic violence and illegal weapons and the inpact it will have on them with the choices they make for the future. I am also a PEER Support officer. I offer support to other officers and family members when need in times of despair and distress or just a shoulder to lean on. If needed I work with our EAP officers and have them place in the appropriate facility that will benefit them to the fullest for the needs they have in their time of needs.
Directed and supported field personnel in fulfilling day-to-day operational tasks. I was tasked with overseeing the geographical area from Dedham Ma. up to Ashland Ma. including Newton Wellesley hospital. My other functions included FTO (field training officer). I assisted each new EMT with the policies and procedures on how to properly operate each piece of equipment that was placed on the ambulance, Mentoring and instructing recruits on proper documentation and reporting. I also am CEVO certified (Certificate of Emergency Vehicle Operations) this was essential when I was in the training department I instructed over 150 new EMTs on the proper why to operate an emergency vehicle with emergency lights and siren activated. I was also responsible for keeping all field personal and patients under my supervision safe and secure. I would report daily to doctors, head nurses and upper management as required.
