At this job, I am primarily a sick call nurse. I see inmates for medical complaints or concerns. If I am able to assist them within my scope of practice, then that is what I do. If not, I make an appointment with our provider for further assessment. I also am responsible for doing pill call, ordering and checking in medications that we receive from our pharmacy. We have to do "body charts" at times. Which is a quick assessment, to see if the inmate has been injured or if they need to be seen in sick call. At times, body charts are done to assess if an inmate appears to be under the influence of illegal substances. We also see inmates that officers bring down for emergency assessments. I also do initial assessments and new inmate packets, which explains to them how to access care while at our camp. And, of course, when an inmate is to be released, we do release packets (or paperwork) as well as final lab work that is required upon discharge. I also provide medication education and encourage medication adherence as well as diet modification and healthier choices for different medical needs.

RN Charge Nurse - I was responsible for med pass, skin assessment, communication with DON and Physician about changes in condition or medication changes. I administered nebulizer treatments, monitored diabetics as ordered by physician and administered insulin accordingly. I cared for multiple patients that had feeding tubes as well. Also charting required by insurance companies. I also provided wound care for my residents.

At this job, I worked on the Senior Behavioral Unit. I was responsible for med pass. I cared for my diabetic patients. I completed blood glucose checks as ordered and administered insulin accordingly. I was responsible for full assessments on each of my patients. I assisted with their ADL needs. I assisted with monitoring for risks of Suicidal and Homicidal ideations and Behaviors. We also had patients with Alzheimer Disease and Dementia that the Psychiatrist would attempt to assist with medication adjustments for behaviors. I also provided wound care when needed.
