SHELLEY NEWCOM

Philpot,Ky

Summary

Currently I work in an outpatient setting as a physical therapist assistant where I am able to treat orthopedic, neurologic, and geriatric diagnoses, as well as a variety of other conditions. I have 33 years' experience in physical therapy and during that time I have worked in acute care and other settings where I have extensively interacted with physicians, interpreted within my scope of practice medical information, and advocated to insurance liaisons for my clients' continued care or alternate avenue of care when needed. My profession mandates continued education for continued licensure, but I have always gone above the mandated hours as I am always searching for the "missing link" to their progression. In addition to the typical orthopedic and back pain courses that are offered, I have completed courses in management of chronic pain, visceral manipulation, spinal cord management, management of migraines and many more. I do not have extensive knowledge in pharmacology, interpreting ekgs, and I am sure I am lacking in regard to knowing the exact lab values of some tests, but what I do know is how to ask questions, how to advocate for my clients to help them achieve their goals, and that the effects of an injury cannot always be measured by a test and, depending on the level of trauma, it can take longer than the textbook time frame to "recover." If you think I may be an asset to your team, then let's have a conversation.
