Sofia Gillum

Although other students may resemble my academic achievements, they are no match for my drive, commitment, and passion for change. These characteristics assist me in striving for excellence in my extracurriculars just as much as my academics. I am incredibly invested in bettering my community, promoting social change, and bringing awareness to the issues our world faces today. Each act towards this goal is just as important as the next. Unlike most, I have found myself as both a leader and a witness in my community. No matter the position I find myself in, my mission remains the same. Through various volunteering initiatives, such as clothing and toiletry drives, uniform donations, and tutoring underprivileged students, I have reached and assisted those who need it most. In my leadership positions, whether as the president of my school’s Black Student Alliance club or as the Voter Registration Coordinator of a campaign, I have worked to increase minority representation and awareness. Having completed these accomplishments at such a young age, I have learned to persevere through challenges that may keep me from my goal. What sets me apart is my active and holistic approach. Other applicants may possess similar grades and scores, but my ability to identify an issue and develop initiatives to work toward a solution makes me truly unique.
