As a warehouse worker for Rain Bird, I was responsible for scanning boxes as they came down the beltline. The process was scan the label on the box and then the parent label that belonged to the entire pallet. After being properly scanned, the boxes were ready to be placed on the pallet. I was required to build pallets with the heavier boxes on bottom and lighter boxes stacked on top as I constructed each pallet. Pallets could range from less than a dozen boxes to up over 200 boxes. Pallets had certain standards as well: only a half inch of overhang was allowed and they had to be as flat as possible on top since they were going to be stacked in the trucks during delivery. And after each pallet was built, I used a pallet jack to move it to one of the automatic pallet wrappers. Once a pallet was wrapped up tight, it was moved to the staging area where the forklift drivers would carry them onto the proper truck. If I wasn't building pallets, I was throwing the boxes onto the beltline. For throwing, I was required to scan the labels that would be stuck to each box, scan the SKU on the box so Rain Bird could keep track of how many boxes of each product was leaving warehouse, and then place each box onto the conveyor belt. Boxes had to be separated enough so the automatic sorter could properly identify each box and determine which spur it should go to. On the busiest days, I was scanning anywhere between 1,000 to 2,000 boxes. And the boxes ranged anywhere from less than a pound up to over 40 pounds. We were required to wear safety vests, hats, glasses, and gloves and worked 12 hour shifts. During the short time I was with Rain Bird I also gained some experience with driving a forklift. I learned how to use both sit down and stand up forklifts. I am not forklift certified, but I believe I could be with just more experience using it.
