In the emergency department I room pts when they arrive and obtain their initial vital signs. If the pt is having chest pain or shortness of breath I will get a STAT EKG. I help pts with ambulating, toileting and cares that are in my scope of practice. I can splint broken bones and assist providers with a variety of procedures. I clean rooms and make sure supplies are stocked.
I watched and reviewed heart rhythms on patients that were on telemetry in med/surg and PCU. I promptly notified providers and RNs with any changes. I obtained EKGs when ordered or emergently needed.
I helped residents with ADLs
I worked at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in the Maternity Unit. I set up delivery tables and assisted providers during deliveries. I was taught some scrub tech duties as part of my training. I set up and scrubbed in for c-sections, handed off instruments to Dr and First Assist. I helped with moms and babies during postpartum. I drew first AM labs on moms, gave babies baths, did heel sticks on newborns for blood draws and newborn screens. I assisted Drs with circumcisions and aftercare. It was a very rewarding job.
