BSN RN with first 7 years in a university hospital pediatric surgical unit. 10+ years nursing experience in operating room. Hospital trained, and member AORN. On to traveling assignments with specific training for each including; trauma, transplant, and OBGYN. Temp agency work in SD hospital OR's. Returned to school for certificate PNP program, graduating in 1991. Worked as CPNP in SD Balboa Naval Hospital outpatient pediatric clinic and newborn nursery for 10 years.
Took time off to raise a family and work in family business, keeping RN and NP licensure current. During this time acquired executive management, bookkeeping and computer skills for retail business.
Volunteer in Mexico as OR-RN on multiple missions (emphasis ENT/craniofacial surgery). Occasional local ASC Medely Shifts. Currently (7yrs) in OR, ambulatory surgery center, 5 shifts per week. Alternate Charge responsibilities, as well as manage Employee Health (Education, Files, PPd, Flu, Fit Testing) and assist with orientation of new staff.
Also credentialed as a licensed lactation consultant, and continue to do lactation support independently.
Circulating RN. Rotating Charge Nurse role includes Assessing, Planning and Implementing and Coordinating patient care in fast-paced, primarily adult, ambulatory surgery center (4 rooms). Multiple anesthesiologists and surgeons. Communicating with adult patients during pre-op interview and assisting patients with stress-reducing techniques prior to procedures. Various roles requiring organization skills, communication skills and flexibility. Charge role includes assigning rooms/ procedures/staff, insuring breaks, preference card selection and picking supplies for daily procedures. Coordination of Anesthesia/RN staff. Trouble shooting. Employee Health RN role; maintaining EH records, Fit Testing, staff compliance.

Administrative skills include communication and coordination of customer service, light bookkeeping, cash management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, advertising, showroom maintenance, and scheduling of appointments. Computer communication and basic Quickbooks.
Civilian Contract PNP at large Naval Medical Center, requiring understanding of Navy military rank and service. Patients of diverse military family population. Primary care pediatrics with emphasis on newborn nursery, well child care, physical exams, and lactation education. Telephone triage. Annual lactation course, staff educator.

Scrub and Circulate. Assessing, planning, implementing and coordinating patient care in OR. Maxillofacial surgery team comprised of; craniofacial, dental, ENT, plastic, and orthopedic surgery (bone graft harvest). Assist ENT surgeons in pre-op clinic with exams and instrumentation. OR surgical suite set up, stocking rooms for procedures for ages 4 mos. to 27 yrs. Instrument cleaning and set up of instruments for autoclaving. Skill required to sustain long consecutive days, as staff stays until all cases are complete.
