Summary

Public education is currently optimized for a single type of learner—the textbook memorizer. I am a builder who believes that undergraduate education is fundamentally broken when it treats core subjects like Math, English, and Science as abstract hurdles rather than functional tools.

With 15 years in the STEM trenches and a Master’s in Leadership and Emerging Technologies, I have dedicated my career to Learning Engineering: the art of teaching rigorous concepts through direct application. Whether I am architecting game logic in Godot, troubleshooting mechanical failures in VEX Robotics, or executing structural 'sweat equity' on a custom residential build, I believe mastery is proven by what a student can build, not what they can recite. I am seeking to join Outsmart to help engineer an undergraduate model that replaces passive 'general' requirements with an agile, career-integrated curriculum designed for the AI era.

Work History

Technology and Engineering Educator

Alpine School District
UT
01.2011 - Current
  • Applied Technical Instruction: Developed and delivered hands-on courses, moving beyond textbooks to teach Creative Coding (using Godot for game logic) and Robotics Technology (using VEX IQ hardware).
  • Integrated Design & Logic: Built a cross-disciplinary workflow where students use Adobe Illustrator to create custom graphics and UI, then implement them into functional game engines using GDScript logic.
  • Mechanical & Robotic Systems: Lead the assembly, programming, and troubleshooting of VEX IQ robotics systems, teaching students to solve physical mechanical failures through iterative testing and code adjustment.
  • Specialized Technical Lead: Serve as the original instructional and technical lead for Godot engine deployment; architected the environment for student-led game development, managing all GDScript logic troubleshooting and Adobe-to-Godot asset workflows.
  • Robotics Hardware Maintenance: Execute all mechanical repairs and component-level troubleshooting for a fleet of VEX IQ robots, ensuring hardware reliability through hands-on maintenance of motors, sensors, and structural assemblies.
  • College & Career Alignment: Designed a College and Career Awareness curriculum that replaces passive memorization with real-world application.

SYSTEMS & INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS

Independent
01.2005 - Current
  • Residential Design & Build: Designed a custom home; performed hands-on "sweat equity" including framing, electrical, tile, finish work, and exterior installation (Hardie and stone).
  • Excavation & Site Work: Operated a Kubota BX25 (backhoe/loader) with 600+ hours in specialized landscaping, drainage systems, and dirt work, applying mechanical physics to solve structural land challenges.
  • Mechanical Maintenance: Perform diagnostic and part-replacement repairs on cars, RVs, UTVs, ATVs and trailers, maintaining a fleet of personal and recreational vehicles through hands-on mechanical troubleshooting.

Skills

  • Project-Based Learning (PBL): Expert in designing "applied-first" curricula where technical mastery is proven through physical and digital builds
  • Curriculum Development: 15 years of experience architecting academic roadmaps from zero to high-fidelity technical outcomes
  • Instructional Strategies & Student Engagement: Specialist in high-engagement methodologies for STEM, focusing on moving learners from passive observation to active technical creation
  • Lesson Planning & Assessment Validation: Designing structured, data-driven learning paths that ensure measurable student success and competency-based progress
  • Strategic Problem-Solving: A "full-stack builder" mindset applied to both software logic (Godot) and physical systems (Residential Construction/Robotics)
  • Cross-Functional Team Collaboration: Experience working with technical and administrative stakeholders to deliver complex educational projects on tight deadlines
