As a paramedic working for a small service in Baraga MI., I felt weak in some skills, including vent management. As I was moonlighting with Mercy EMS, UPHS Portage offered me a job in the respiratory department. I took the job to expand my experience and skills just before the COVID pandemic hit. At Portage we had to quickly adapt and expand out ability's to manage so many critical resp. pt's.
In 2022 I started a second full time position at Mercy EMS as a paramedic, and have been working both jobs since.
I am appling for this position to expand my pt care skills. Before a started working in EMS, I was a welder, and a mechanic, I love building things, but it doesn't have the reward like helping people in there time of need.
At Portage, my work responsibilities involve setting and maintaining pt care involving neb treatments, BIPAP/CPAP, HighFlow, and vent management from neonatal to adults. We cover all floors, in the facility, including ICU, ED, Nursery, med surge.
