Work History

Area Lead Composite Technician 4

Scaled Composites
Mojave
04.2014 - Current

Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of technicians in all aspects of composite prototype fabrication, including hand layup, prepreg processing, resin infusion, vacuum bagging, autoclave/oven curing, trimming, bonding, and assembly of aircraft structures (e.g., wings, fuselage sections, control surfaces).

• Oversee the full prototype development workflow: interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and work instructions; build custom molds, tools, and fixtures; perform in-process inspections; and support structural testing and integration.

• Drive rapid iteration and continuous improvement in prototype processes to reduce build times, minimize defects, and enhance producibility while maintaining aerospace-quality standards.

• Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and test engineers to provide hands-on feedback on design for manufacturability (DFM), material selection, and process optimization.

• Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, FOD (Foreign Object Debris) prevention, cleanroom/best practices, and quality documentation (e.g., travelers, inspection reports, material traceability).

• Troubleshoot technical issues during layup, curing, or assembly; implement corrective actions and share lessons learned with the team and engineering.

• Train and develop team members on advanced composite techniques, equipment operation (e.g., ovens, autoclaves, CNC trimming), and aerospace standards.

• Manage team schedules, workflow prioritization, inventory of composite materials and consumables, and equipment maintenance to meet aggressive prototype development timelines.

• Participate in design reviews, prototype readiness assessments, and post-build debriefs to support program milestones.
