I was previously in the patrol division on various shifts. I enforced laws, conducted investigations, made arrests, and patrolled a designated area. I also served as a field training officer. I trained and supervised several officers during their probationary period.
Prior to retirement, I was a member of the Special Services Unit where I had many responsibilities
My final position in Special Services is representing the city to the downtown business district.
I worked closely with all of the departments in the city to provide services to the downtown. These departments include Building Code Enforcement, Public Works, Engineering, Planning, Finance, Parking Authority, and the City Manager's Office.

I worked with all of the social agencies in the city that provided services to the homeless, persons with a mental illness, and persons with a substance use disorder. For years, I worked with these social agencies helping to get people into housing, getting people into various forms of treatment, and any other important needs they may have.
I assisted in organizing special events that occurred throughout the city. I devised alternate route plans to divert traffic for these events and for emergencies to ensure the safety of everyone involved. These events run from small events up to large events such as West Virginia University football and basketball games.
