Summary
As an undergraduate senior at Oregon State University, I have developed a strong foundation in academic writing, oral presentations, and laboratory skills. I have gained valuable, hands-on research experience and fieldwork through my involvement in the Menge Lab, my crab research project, and studying marine organisms at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport. I learned to identify algae and invertebrates, analyze sediment samples for biodiversity, and present my findings to large audiences. Overall, my research has deepened my commitment to understanding and conserving ocean life and I am eager to apply what I have learned to new challenges as a graduate student.

European Green and Red Rock Crab Magnet Study

05.2024 - 06.2024
- As a group of three students, we designed and conducted a study to determine whether European Green crabs and Red Rock crabs are attracted to magnets.
- The project was mentored by Dr. Sylvia Yamada, a retired professor of Integrative Biology.
- I wrote a research paper independently on the findings of the study.
- As a group, we presented our findings to an audience at Hatfield Marine Science Center.
- Our study has implications for capturing and removing the invasive Carcinus maenus, in order to mitigate its harmful ecological impacts on the Oregon coast.
- This project offered valuable fieldwork experience, as well as skills in research design and implementation.

- Assisted in an ongoing research project investigating the impacts of climate change, including ocean acidification, on the stability and biodiversity of coastal marine ecosystems.
- Analyzed the biodiversity of marine organisms collected from sediment samples taken from multiple sample sites on the Oregon coast.
- Identified organisms present in the samples, measured their dry weights, and recorded what I found on data sheets.
- Participated in fieldwork, such as collecting mussels for study.
