I come from a family of farmers who taught me how to care for the soil and the fruit bearing plants to care for. I was told by my great grandfather you take care of your land and the land will feed you. I take that same philosophy in my personal and professional life. This priceless advice inspired me to study environmental science and to lean about the planet we care for but that was a side dish to my forever love of journalism. I appreciated the love of science, yet for me the narrative was similar, in essence, both science and journalism are similar in that they endlessly pursue and search for the truth. That's when I found my purpose, the constant search for the real story, and not getting lost in the vines.
I began my journey of journalism with my high school news paper and college news paper. Though I was always eager to lear more about media I worked at a local radio station in Los Angeles KROQ, where I landed the opportunity book guest for the night time talk show " Love Line," with Dr. Drew. Several years later I moved to Arizona and was given the opportunity to join The Sonoran News Parer where I wrote stories on people and the land they occupied. After a couple af years I got the call to join friends in the film industry to work on commercials and music videos, those days were very rewarding but my pursuit to tell stories of people who were not in the spotlight to me were more compelling and important. . For me the love of journalism pulsed through my blood. That's where my journey into TV news could no longer be denied. I leaped and never looked back.
I feel extremely fortunate to tell the life and stories of people in our community, though the lens I can help to tell their story with humanity and integrity. I think our mission as journalist is not only to inform but to give a glimpse of what it's like to see another's perspective, relate or to become informed.
