Criminal Justice Major and Psychology Minor seeking internship in a law attorney's office to gain experience to then enter into a law school the start of the fall semester of 2024 specializing in Civil Rights and Social Justice. I believe that my time management, fast learning abilities, commitment to succeed, and relevant studies and experience and exposure of the social and racial injustice happening in today's society would make me a great candidate for any Civil Rights office. Also, my passion to better the community and be a token in ending the discrimination and harm of people who not only look like me but others who may face the same or similar obstacles. I've been Awarded on the Dean's list consecutively each semester as I exceeded in every course I've taken directed towards these studies and is expected to graduate May of 2023 with a Bachelors in Criminal Justice and Minor in Psychology.
Capital Area Healthy Start Coalition :
Here in Tallahassee, Florida, I volunteer and perform community service with a company called Healthy Start and Sister Friends. It is a program that works to improve the health of expecting mothers and their infants. Personally, I gave my time and assistance to one of the coalition's several programs. I conducted a lot of outreach, going to Florida A&M University's campus to hang flyers, distribute pamphlets, and inform people about opportunities from which they or someone they may know can benefit. I contributed to the creation of a baby shower organized by Healthy Start and Sister Friends, which involved gift-wrapping items for expecting women to feel like they had their own baby shower, such as pampers, diapers, bibs, and onesie, and many more.
Volunteer and Service (VSL) campus volunteer involvement :
I also participated in the Percy Henry-created Volunteer and Service Learning (VSL) program at FAMU. We recently had the privilege of attending an old Baptist church on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to recognize not only God but also MLK Jr. and the wonderful things he has done for the community and continues to accomplish even in his physical absence. It was really illuminating to learn about MLK Jr. and to experience church service differently than I am used to. I think that helping your community involves facing challenges and getting to know the people you are helping, and I definitely learned that there. Additionally, after that weekend we served in the community by doing a street clean up in Frenchtown , where we were split into groups of 20 and had an assigned street to clean up.
(Church/Community) Radiant Living Worship Center :
I've served our community ever since I was a young child. Many people are unaware of the Church's role in reviving the neighborhood and going out and helping people. The goal of our initiative is to restore trust in people's lives. I can recall participating in Girl's Club, a shoe drive, Christmas carol singing, feeding the hungry, and other community service projects. I performed a variety of leadership positions in the church, serving as a girls club counselor for younger girls who came from all parts of the neighborhood on Saturday mornings. We did arts and crafts projects with them, taught them about God, and provided food. I'm really accustomed to having a sisterhood because that is how I spent my childhood in the church. Taught to be there for our sisters, pray for our sisters, support our sisters, never to judge, encourage them, etc.
High School Community Involvement/Service :
At my high school, Deerfield Beach High, I was a member of a club or organization called Speak Out that was run by the Student Government Association (SGA). The club was founded by our school groundskeeper Melvin and was directed and run by a teacher named Mrs. Hill, who was also the head of the SGA on campus. Speak Out was a group that provided information on sex, sex education, the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), and other prevalent sexually transmitted diseases to students, peers, and the community (STI). The stigma associated with these STDs, or simply regarding sex or sex education in general, was our main concern. Our objective was to inform our peers and the general public about the peculiarities of particular STIs and STDs.
