Summary

I have been a registered nurse since July 1996. I worked my first three years at William R Sharpe, Jr Hospital, where I learned the art of therapeutic communication. Although my first love as nursing is the maternal infant side, I am very thankful for the three years at Sharpe Hospital. Therapeutic communication is one of my strengths. I worked as an Obstetrical nurse on an LDRP unit from 1996 until 2017. I took care of ante-partums, labors, post-partums, and newborns. I also took care of surgical GYN patients. From 2015 to 2017, I worked as staff educator/clinical supervisor on the LDRP unit. I loved being able to participate in management activities like chart audits, delivery ratios, analyzing poor outcomes in deliveries, teaching the staff new ideas/concepts, and the cost efficiency of managing staffing budget and equipment budget. I also loved that I worked night shift and was available to help teach the new staff about new situations that they had never encountered. In 2018, I took a Resource Pool RN position at WVU Children's and have remained at Children's since that time. When the Resource Pool was dissolved at Children's, I took a staff RN position on the Maternal Infant Care Center until August of 2022, when I transferred to CH House Supervisor position. I enjoy my position as HS in Children's, but I can not do rotating shifts. I enjoyed managing staffing and beds, helping the staff on the different floors, and being a patient advocate. I enjoy using critical thinking skills and helping educate staff on the proper techniques and procedures.

At various times in my career, I also maintained per diem RN positions to expand my knowledge. I worked at the Birthing Center at Mon General Hospital and learned new laboring techniques from nurse midwives. I worked as a home health nurse for Interim Health Care and learned how to manage patients in the home setting. I also worked at Ruby Memorial in Children's to expand my skills on neonates, pediatric patients, and to learn more high risk obstetrics. In 2016, I was blessed with the opportunity to be a legal nurse expect for an obstetrical case and learned the importance of charting efficiently. I am currently certified in Inpatient Obstetrics (2009) and maintain Intermediate and Advanced Fetal Monitoring every couple of years.

I am a hard worker, who works well with others. I believe in fair and equal treatment of staff and strive to educate staff. I am a leader and am willing to jump in at anytime to help. I care about the patients and treat them respect. I also treat staff with respect. I feel that as a clinical supervisor I helped unify the unit staff members became better nurses. I strive to make nurses more efficient and confident while learning to adapt. I am dependable and have strong work ethic.
