WORK INITIATIVES

  • Residential Care Requested the Chef at the Woodlake Assisted Living to introduce fresh fruits during meals instead of tin fruits which was taken on board Suggested a few engaging activities to Activity Officer at the Woodlake
  • Administration Identified the lack of common space in the new School of Social Sciences building in 2009 and proposed to convert two rooms into a Staff Room/Kitchen space for staff for School of Social Sciences. The School now have a proper Staff Room with meeting facilities with a full kitchen where staff can take a proper break and rest between classes. Initiative aligned to Priority Area 1: Objective 2 of the Strategic Plan; To continuously improve the quality of teaching throughout the University through engaged and passionate staff.
  • Identified the lack of classrooms with online/satellite facilities, as available facilities are often pre-booked throughout the semester. Proposed for Room 113 and the new Staff Room to be fitted with fully online facilities to meet the needs of our students. Identified available funds from CAPEX funding to cater for this project. The project took 2 years and we now have two fully fitted zoom and online facilities. Initiative aligned to Priority Area 5: Objective 2: Provide an ICT platform for Digital Transformation to support world-class education, research and innovation and administration.
  • Negotiated the entry requirement for 26 senior civil servants from Solomon Islands who were part of the in-country cohorts for the Post Graduate Diploma in Social Policy; Initiative aligned to Priority Area 4: Objective 2 of the Strategic Plan
  • Effective engagement with and support for Pacific Island countries (PICs) in response to current and emerging development and regional issues through enhanced stakeholder, community and civic engagement.
  • Identified that the new Post Graduate Border Security programme that was captured in the 2020 Handbook and Calendar had not been activated online or on banner by any USP staff. Independently arranged and followed through with Secretariat Office for minutes of the Council’s programme approval, CFL and SAS resulting in the activation of the programme online. This resulted in the successful completion of the 1st batch of the Post Graduate Certificate in Trimester 2, 2020. 63 students within Fiji and the region completed the 1st batch of the Post Graduate Certificate in Border Security;
  • Identified and engaged a coordinator for the new Post Graduate Border Security trimester-based programme given the sudden departure of the current coordinator. The new coordinator had to exit the programme after 2 trimester due to his current work load. Successfully identify and engage another coordinator to take the programme forward in Trimester 3, 2020. Initiative alignment to Priority Area 1: Object 2 of the Strategic Plan: To continuously improve the quality of teaching throughout the University through engaged and passionate staff.
  • Secured a 1 year consultancy contract for the current coordinator of the Border Security programme: Initiative aligned to Priority Area 1: Object 2 of the Strategic Plan
  • Successfully promoted and marketed the new Post Graduate Border security programme within the regional stakeholders, government ministries and private companies. As a result our intake for the new programme continues to increase. Initiative aligned to Priority Area 5: Objective 4 of Strategic Plan; Market the University as the premier tertiary educational institution in the region.
  • Engaged with Oceania Customs, Marshall Islands for a proposed online cohort for the Post Graduate Certificate in Border Security for 50 students who are currently staff within the Government Ministries and Stakeholders in the Marshall Islands whose line of work are within Customs, Border Security and Immigration. Initiative aligned to Priority Area 4: Objective 2 of the Strategic Plan: Effective engagement with and support for Pacific Island countries (PICs) in response to current and emerging development and regional issues through enhanced stakeholder, community and civic engagement
