As an assistant nurse manager and charge nurse I gained many skills on this 46 bed unit. These skills include working as a resource for new graduate nurses when guidance was needed, breaking down certain processes or skill sets to get a better understanding, and educating all nurses on the floor about different medications.
I was also in charge of this unit and would help with service recovery rates and making sure patients and family members understood and felt safe of their care givers.
Travel RN
PCU Generalized Floor (Travel RN)
While on this assignment I worked with various age groups from age 18-109. Care provided for these patients included various exacerbations, abnormal heart arrhythmias, post-surgical care (Cath lab patients and ortho), patients on hospice care, and initiated TPN.
This unit included many more responsibilities and valued team nursing. I also worked with case management often to make discharges safe for patients and various family members. While working at this facility I also acquired skills in the CNC position.
Head and Neck Floor
PCU Head and Neck Floor
While working on this floor I became head and neck certified by taking care of post-operative flap patients. I took care of free flaps and also rotational flaps.
I also initiated bolus and continuous feedings and taught patients and family members how to administer this in a home setting. Flaps were monitored every hour with a doppler machine, and I also had to teach this diverse group how to suction themselves as they went home with tracheostomies.
With this. Group of patients I had to be very patient and work with many family members, so each patient was safe in the home setting.
Hematology and Oncology Group
AHMG Hematology and Oncology Group
While working in this outpatient setting, I learned so much about administering chemotherapy agents and taking care of patients while on chemotherapy.
I taught very many patients about their regimens and included family members on these teachings.
I learned in this setting it takes many people and family members to achieve optimal care throughout chemotherapy I also placed orders for hematological agents for patients with blood disorders.
I have learned so much about hematological markers and therapeutic regimens for these diseases while working with the doctor constantly and coming up with a care plan for each patient.
