We ran trips such as whale watching, shark diving, and pelagic offshore expeditions. I would also work as a safety diver in the water with guests and sharks and teach them about wildlife we would encounter.

Deckhand/Snorkel Guide

Deckhand and lifeguard duties aboard 35ft charter boat with a max of 25 guests. We would take around 20-25 people out with three separate trips a day to a snorkel spot off the coast of Waikiki to snorkel with turtles. Daily tasks on board included prepping boat before trips began, throughly cleaning and scrubbing boat and gear before and after every trip. Handling lines, fenders, and docking procedures. Fitting guests into fins, masks, and life jackets. Giving safety briefings on snorkel sites and requirements in the water. Spotting turtles in the water for guests to see. Providing photos of their experience, and serving fresh snacks and drinks to guests.

Whale Watch Naturalist/Deckhand

Working as a naturalist and deckhand full time aboard a 85ft whale watching boat required interacting with and meeting new guests daily, up to 200 people a day, maintaining and cleaning the vessel before and after trips, being a wildlife guide during trips and talking on a microphone to all guests about what whales and dolphins we were seeing and interesting information about them, and taking photos of the animals on a professional camera set up to sell to guests. We also ran private charters for parties, burials, and other events which required working in the galley serving food, drinks, and alcohol and attending to guests throughout the whole trip.
