My current job at Arrow Concrete and Asphalt is many leadership roles to start the day off. I teach the new workers how to prep, and how to get everything ready for the day ahead. Some examples include filling up the trucks with material, propane tanks, gas tank, and making sure everything is where it needs to be. Our job mostly revolves around parking lots, roads, and highways. When on the job site I make sure the surface it clean to put the seal coat onto the asphalt and making sure it stick properly. I also ran a forklift while at arrow, learned valves with pipes, and a little understanding how our plant process our material.
I was a firewood contractor sense I was a little over 14 years old. I sold firewood for the first couple years until I could get a better job for myself. I ended up finding a way to make firewood profitable, and continued working for myself until my first "legitimate" job with Darren's tree service. My responsibilities were to communicate with the customer understanding exactly what type of wood they want, how long the length, and the size of the split wood. I also was fulling relying on myself to cut, split, and deliver and stack the firewood into the owners woodshed or house. During this time I've sold more than 400 cords of wood with only a chainsaw, an axe/mall and a 85' ford F250 that only could deliver one cord at a time. My significant accomplishments during this time was being able to create my own operation really all by myself, at the young age of 14. Another great understanding that I've learned from doing this work is building trust worthy bonds with my costumers. I learned how how important your word is to someone, I learned how to go the extra mile make sure there gonna make it through the winter, I learned how to manage my funds. Out of everything though my most important lesson I learned is how to be self reliant, and understanding your word is worth more than just money.
When I worked for Darren's Tree Service, my job was to clean up branches from hazard trees, in towns, farms, and along road sides. I also ran the chipper, feeding branches, and shrubs. Accomplishments during my time on this job is having to be aware of my surroundings, and developing a greater work ethic in more a more laborer job and understanding the risks and dangers in this type of work. I ran skid steer a little bit, lifts, operating controls for boom trucks. giving hand signals to crane operator removing limbs around houses. This also taught me how to work under high stress jobs.
