Summary

From a self-dispatched Arctic/Bush pilot landing on the sides of snow-laden glaciers or mountains several thousand feet up, or landing a Twin Otter on floats on the Arctic Ocean or a frozen lake, working five weeks on, one week off in up to 35 below-zero conditions at times, to night freight operations in a DC-3 traversing the U.S. thick with thunderstorms with no radar, from corporate executive flights in a Lear one day, then the next in an air ambulance-configured jet, to eventually working my way up to the largest aircraft in the world. I am looking for the opportunity to bring my knowledge, passion, and unique range of experience to the table to enhance your flight department.

Work History

Business Owner

Salmon Catcher Lodge
Kenai, AK
05.2001 - 06.2023
  • While flying on my weeks off, I built a premier fishing lodge in Kenai, Alaska, over a 20-year time frame. Some of my clientele were Larry Csonka, Miami Dolphins, who filmed two times there, and is featured on Larry Csonka's NAPA's North to Alaska series. Brian Shaw from the LA Lakers, Laticrete, the largest tile grout company in the USA, Moen Group, BP, some of the top oil and wine companies in the US, and I ran this company simultaneously on my days off and took it from a $5,000 one-acre land purchase to a multi-million dollar sale two years ago.
  • Its legacy is that I used the profits from this lodge to donate a million dollars to charities such as the Outdoor Dream Foundation, which helps cancer-stricken children and their parents; 22 Kill, which aims to stop suicides; and Wounded Warrior, which supports police, firefighters, and paramedics injured in the line of duty, providing a free full week with all activities, up to 20 a week, over the last 14 years of my business.
  • My last donation before selling two years ago was to the US Marshals Posse in PHX, the only affiliation to the Marshals of its kind in the US. I was honored with an invite to join their organization, where I donate my time to charity drives. Since then my wife is now a member and my two daughters, aged 12 and 14, regularly join us in those charity events events.

B-767 Etops Instructor

United Parcel Service, UPS
Louisville, KY
05.1989 - 05.2009
  • Responsible as Captain from pre-flight planning to post-flight duties on the B-757, based in the European and Asian theaters, training new Captains and First Officers in the ETOPS theater.
  • Responsible as Captain on a B-767 for around-the-world tours in 12 days for both transitioning domestic Captains and First Officers, and signing them off as ready to act in their respective positions on their next assignment.
  • I was one of the first two non-management ETOPS instructors to be brought on board. My check ride was overseen by the head FAA check airman from Washington, DC, performing his initial check ride on the Kentucky FAA head pilot in charge of UPS Airlines, who was doing his check ride on both of us in Honolulu. Upon completion, we were granted authority to operate, and I found myself across the Pacific Ocean a few days later with a crew of three.
  • Initially graduating from the simulator as a Professional Flight Engineer, my release to the line for IOE was halted. The Head of the FAA requested the Director of Flight Ops at UPS to add me to the next flight simulator instructor class. My mechanics background and my technician's degree gave me a foot up on the ability to understand the mechanics of aircraft, not just the stick-and-rudder skills; therefore, this made me an instant instructor in his eyes! . I joined, approximately 20 new management instructors, making me the first non-management Flight Engineer Instructor at UPS. My short one week on the line came at Christmas for my IOE on aircraft; otherwise, I spent 11 months training other new hires until I moved back into the classroom for first officer training on the 727 while in my first year's probationary period.
  • I flew as First Officer on the B-727 domestically all over the Continental USA, Mexico, and Canada for around a year.
  • I started training on the B-757 as a first officer in my third year and flew to most of the lower 48 states, Canada, and Mexico.
  • For the next two years, I flew domestically and then internationally as a McDonnell Douglas (DC-8) First Officer. I kept hearing, 'If you can fly a DC-8, you can fly anything,' so I was game!
  • A B-747 first officer position opened up, and who in their right mind wouldn't jump at that? So I went back into training. I completed IOE and flew two trips to Honolulu. When, unexpectedly, a B-757 captain slot opened up to everyone's surprise, so naturally, I finally went back into ground school. After my first year, they made me a line instructor, then the B-767 came on board, and I performed the line instructor position on both types. In my last eight or so years, I flew around the world in twelve days, training captains and first officers.
  • 02/25/1986 - 08/16/1988
  • Co-Captain and Captain 1123 and 1124, (Westwind), Canada, the USA, and select parts of Europe. BE-100 (King Air) First Officer.
  • 10/30/1980-02/22/1985
  • Beech 90 (King Air) First Officer, then Pilot in Command; AC-21 Jet Commander First Officer; Lear Jet 23/24/25 First Officer; PA-31 Pilot in Command; MU 300 First Officer; Cessna 414 and 441 (Conquest) Pilot in Command.
  • 09/14/75 - 08/26/1980
  • DHC-6 (Twin Otter) tundra tires, floats, skis; DC-3 tundra tires, skis; (4,000 hours) Canadian Arctic to North Pole to all Indian Eskimo villages off strip self-dispatch, 4 years. Beech 18, Cessna 402, 421, 404; Pilot in Command.
  • 07/05/1975 07/30/1975
  • Rented a PA-28-140, flew across Canada, looking for my first job.
  • 09/19/1974 - 12/28/1974
  • Private 30 days.
  • Commercial Pilot: 58 Days.
  • Instrument rating graduated. 12/18/1974
  • I completed my Private, Commercial, Multi Engine, and Instrument rating from start to finish in 60 days. At Moncton Flying Club in New Brunswick, Canada, an old RAF Second World War training facility.

Mack Truck Mechanic Lead Test Driver

Mack Trucks Canada
Oakville Ontario Canada, CA
  • I was chosen by Mack Trucks as the top graduating student in Canada, completing a 3-year apprenticeship program. I apprenticed for the next two years under a Master Mechanic. Upon receiving my own certificate, I was promoted within a few months to the position of test-driving brand-new trucks off the assembly line for final quality control release.
  • I went back to college from 1972 to 1974 and earned a Mechanical Engineering Technician's degree.
  • I left Canada after 15 years in aviation to come to UPS and help start their airline, with 8,500 hours.
  • I showed UPS 20 great years as a professional, dedicated, loyal service, and they reciprocated.
  • I retired with approximately 10,000 large jet hours of experience, resulting in an 18,500-hour career.
