- During the academic year, I work as an undergraduate RA in Dr. Jamie Abaied's Family Development Lab at the University of Vermont. This mainly involves coding parent-child communication data, which centers around how parents talk to their children about sexuality and race.
- Doing thematic analysis of this data has helped us understand the messaging being passed down to younger generations surrounding these sensitive subjects.
- We have also done similar work with our PhD student's study on the ramifications of dating apps on body image and self-esteem.
- We're required to complete an independent study project each semester, so I have written a literature review and a presentation about the effects of stimulants on the adolescent mind, a topic of particular interest for me.
- Overall, I have greatly enjoyed applying principles of psychological research that I had previously only been taught about in my classes to a real context, especially with such fascinating data.
