  • Mississippi Head Injury Foundation: Co-founded this state-wide program whose goal was to disseminate information throughout the state to aid patients and families. This led to over 500 families joining this organization.
  • Halloween Carnival Food Chairperson/ John Rogers Elementary School: Typically a loss leader for the school’s main fund raising event, but I turned food service into a profitable venture over the three years that I served as Chair.
  • PTO Fund Raising Chairperson/Westminster Elementary: Increased membership and revenues by 100%.
  • Vice-President/Westminister Elementary: Spearheaded the renovation of the Teachers Lounge and createdd a program to improve staff/parent communications.
  • Garden District Civic Association/Special Events &Beautification Chairperson: The many projects that I initiated included:

 Block Captain System: On each of the 52 blocks I recruited an individual to address the needs of the 850 neighborhood.                          

 Recycling Program: Promoted the city’s new program with a series of public meetings.  Given the Mayor’s Award for Excellence.

 Newsletter: Self-supporting quarterly newsletter through advertising.

 New Neighbor Pamphlet: Designed to inform new residents of our ongoing programs and distributed by the Block Captains, dramatically        i      increasing membership and participation in our programs. 

Alley Clean-up Day: Program funded by the Mid-City Redevelopment Alliance, to remove debris from vacant lots, alleys and roadways as   part of their Fix-Up Mid-City program. All 52 blocks participated in this event.

Neighborhood-wide Yard Sale: Modeled after the “Longest Yard Sale”,  Hosted at 30 residences with more than 70 households contributing to a large tent sale. This was the largest fund raiser ever held and it generated over $5,000 to use for  beautification and security projects.

Tour of Homes: Recruited volunteers to serve as neighborhood ambassadors for several years beginning in 1995.

  • Mid-City Redevelopment Alliance (MCRA), First Time Owners Program: Led classes with prospective home buyers to learn the necessary steps to acquire their first homes. Tour of Homes : Coordinated with lenders, real estate agents and city officials to market homes within the 10 neighborhoods within the MCRA.
  • Locations Real Estate: Developed a “Home Buying 101” program/bus tour and led a “Remodeling and Renovating Your Home” seminar.
  • Downtown Development District: Worked other Realtors and community leaders to highlight the advantages of living in Baton Rouge’s 2 oldest neighborhoods.
