Work History

Deck Supervisor (Manager)

Somerset Hills YMCA
Basking Ridge
05.2024 - Current
  • Managed lifeguards on duty and swim instructors, guaranteeing that the lifeguards watched attentively over the pools and the surrounding areas, making sure they rotated in a timely fashion and in the manner deemed to be acceptable practice by the YMCA, and accounted whether lifeguards were on task, acting in a respectable manner, and saw to instructors making it to lessons on time to keep the daily operations of the pool moving smoothly.
  • Administered tests on lifeguards, such as the "silhouette test" (spotting a black mat under the water in a certain period of time), "red ball test" (I would throw a ball into the pool and the guards would have to retrieve it following protocol), and CPR and rescue tests (guards would have to demonstrate their ability to properly rescue a person from the water and administer CPR afterwards), to ensure their full attention and ability to watch and take care of the pool and pool area.
  • Addressed and personally saw to patrons' concerns about the pool, surrounding area, recommendations, questions about events and swim lessons, and cultivated a friendly environment to keep patrons returning to the YMCA.
  • Looked after pool materials, organizing and preventing damage to them to keep materials open for patron use and increasing their longevity as to not have to buy new materials.

Lifeguard

Somerset Hills YMCA
Basking Ridge
05.2023 - 05.2024
  • Called upon the skills I acquired from my previous lifeguarding position to inform my decisions regarding the safety and happiness of patrons, watching intently over the pool and pool area and any activities that might be going on while also interacting with patrons, creating a welcoming and safe environment for pool-goers.
  • Ran and set up Saturdays in Motion (SIM), a weekly event where lifeguards and other pool staff host water events and games for physically and intellectually disabled persons such as time trial events, water volleyball, and more.
  • Attended to injuries and issues patrons had using my red cross certified skills, continuing to establish a precedent of safety at the pool.

  • Collaborated with other lifeguards to ensure proper practice was met in regards to upkeep such as cleaning, taking out the trash, restocking of materials, and making sure the pool's pumps worked properly in order to keep from any disturb daily operations and maintain a clean environment for patrons.
