Operational Oversight
- Assist the General Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the railroad, ensuring it runs efficiently, safely, and on time.
- Monitor train schedules, staffing, and equipment maintenance to ensure all operational aspects are running smoothly.
- Help manage the logistics of train movements, including ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and operational protocols.
Staff Supervision and Management
- Supervise railroad employees across various departments, including train crews, station staff, maintenance personnel, and customer service teams.
- Assist in hiring, training, and mentoring staff to ensure high performance and adherence to company policies and safety standards.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and provide feedback to improve employee performance and morale.
- Ensure that all employees are properly trained and certified to perform their job functions, especially regarding safety and operational procedures.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure that the railroad adheres to all safety regulations, industry standards, and state/federal compliance guidelines
- Coordinate safety audits, inspections, and training programs for staff to minimize risk and ensure safe operations
- Assist in developing and implementing safety programs and emergency response protocols.
- Respond to any incidents or accidents that may occur on the railroad and ensure proper reporting and follow-up actions
Customer Service and Public Relations
- Assist in managing customer service functions, ensuring that passengers and other stakeholders receive excellent service and that concerns are addressed promptly.
- Oversee station operations, ticket sales, and guest services to ensure a positive customer experience.
- Assist in the development and implementation of marketing and promotional campaigns to increase ridership and brand awareness.
- Engage with local communities and stakeholders to enhance the railroad's reputation and community relations.
Financial and Budget Management
- Help prepare and manage budgets, ensuring that the railroad operates within financial constraints.
- Monitor operational expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service or safety.
- Track revenue streams and work with the management team to increase profitability, such as through fare adjustments, special events, or new services.
Maintenance and Equipment Management
- Assist in overseeing the maintenance and repair of trains, tracks, stations, and other infrastructure to ensure the railroad remains in good working condition.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to schedule routine inspections and repairs to avoid disruptions in service.
- Ensure that equipment, including locomotives and rolling stock, is regularly serviced and meets regulatory requirements.
Event Planning and Special Services
- Coordinate special events, such as themed train rides, holiday events, and group bookings, to boost ridership and customer engagement.
- Work with local businesses, tourism organizations, and other partners to create new services or packages that attract visitors to the railroad.
- Ensure that any special services or events are planned and executed smoothly, with appropriate staffing and operational coordination.
Reporting and Administrative Duties
- Assist the General Manager with reporting on performance metrics, financial outcomes, and customer satisfaction levels.
- Prepare and review reports related to operational performance, safety audits, and compliance.
- Support administrative tasks, such as preparing meeting agendas, taking notes, and managing correspondence.
Strategic Planning and Improvement
- Collaborate with the General Manager to assess current operations and recommend improvements to increase efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction.
- Support long-term planning efforts, including expansion initiatives, upgrading infrastructure, or introducing new services.
- Stay informed of industry trends and innovations in rail travel to help keep the Texas State Railroad competitive and innovative.
Coordination with External Partners
- Work with government agencies, suppliers, and contractors to ensure smooth operational support and procurement.
- Coordinate with other transportation providers, local tourism boards, or city governments to align with regional transportation initiatives and promote the railroad.
