As the Health supervisor for the second largest district in the U.S my Job duties require me to oversee all of contaminants that miners would be exposed to, health enforcement actions, health sampling, plans, and ordering all of the health supplies for the district and seven field offices. I also insure that all required health equipment is maintained, calibrated and available for use. I track all of the health samples for our district and field offices, both metal/non-metal and coal to insure 100% completion. I have four direct reports in my department that I provide oversight to by reviewing notes, citations, orders, work gear and accompanying them to the mine. I monitor and certify my employees timesheets, complete Mid-term and end of the year appraisals. I have to oversee and maintain the mine rescue cache, judge local mine rescue contest and judge the international mine rescue contest. I provide training classes, certification classes, and test to the industry and MSHA personnel. On a regular basis I communicate with mine operators and provide them with safety and health information, and information to help them with compliance issues. I have attended and represented MSHA at the southeast mining conference in Birmingham, scheduled to be an expert witness and been involved in multiple court cases to help settle MSHA citations. I have helped established district policies, procedures, and special initiatives. I have sit on the hiring panel for MSHA and been the selecting official on multiple occasions. I have been involved with and worked three mine fires in two different states, and I am currently an accident investigator. I help review both ventilation and roof control plans, both existing and new mine plans. I also fill in and help the Field Office supervisors. I run some reports for our district to help the district manager monitor that status of health sampling, citations, overexposure's and district information.

When I was the third shift mine foreman I had 20 employees and three foreman under my supervision. My duties were to plan out work, short and long term projects. I also overseen the complete operation of the shift to make sure it was safe and productive. I had to insure that while we were working that we was complying with approved plans, state and federal law. I had to order supplies, provide the materials for the miners to work with, make sure all time sheets were correct, insure training was conducted for the miners on my shift. Handle any personnel or disciplinary issues that arose. Duties consisted of belt moves, power moves, rock dusting, outby belt work and producing coal on every shift. I would also accompany state and federal inspectors during there inspections. provide the company feedback about inspections and my thoughts on contesting citations.
Once on dayshift my responsibilities was to provide a safe and productive working section. I had to know all mine plans and follow state and federal regulations. I had to conduct pre-shift/on-shift exams while producing coal. I would complete task training for the 9 employees that work under my direct supervision and travel with state and federal inspectors during there inspection.
