My college studies had been geared toward teaching and coaching. I was also a member of the Volleyball team and kept stats for the men's Basketball team during my time at Independence Community College. I transferred to Cowley County College, closer to home, to help out my parents. I also met my husband during this time, so when he purchased a small business, I decided not to continue my education and join him in that business. I took on the role of office manager, and it was not a position I had much experience in, but I took on the duties of receptionist, customer sales, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. I had to be self-motivated; it would not get done. Being self-employed, I have learned that it is not an eight-to-five day; you may be working early and staying late. Over the years, I have taken online classes to fill downtime and want to find something to do on the side to fill the downtime. The feed mill business is what you could call a seasonal business. When the grass is green, ranchers do not need to feed the cattle, but when the grass is no longer available due to lack of rain or cold weather, such as winter months, cattle have to be fed. That is when I decided to start looking for work online to compensate for the lack of work to fill that time. I would much rather keep busy.
