Trevaughn Shaw

Wilson,NC

Summary

My name is Trevaughn Shaw, and I am 23 years old. I graduated in the 116th class of BLET from Costal Plains in December of 2020. After graduating BLET I was hired by Oxford Police Department in December 2020. I was employed there for four months before leaving due to being unable to make the one hour and thirty minute commute.

I’ve been employed with the Wilson County Sheriffs Office since February 2nd, 2022. I’ve completed my field training which consisted of about 2 weeks in every division in the Sheriffs Office including the Detention Center which allowed me to become familiar with the criminals and repeat offenders in the county. After completing field training, I was assigned to the Patrol Division under the supervision of Sergeant R. Woodard as the zone 1 car which is where I am currently assigned.

Throughout my career, I have seen and experienced a great deal. I have arrested convicted felons and violent offenders. I have made several felony and drug arrests. I have been in several vehicle and foot pursuits. I also perform proactive traffic stops and regular security checks on the businesses in my area. I have completed CIT training and have been certified.

I’ve been interested in joining the SRT team since I’ve been hired at the Sheriffs Office. After talking with a few of the current SRT team members, and hearing their experiences and taking their tactical advice, it showed me that there is much more experience and training that I would have access to by joining the SRT team.

A great example of this would be the active shooter training that we participated in at Beddingfield High School this past summer. After hearing some of the tactics used by the SRT team and their criticism and feedback after my scenarios, it really helped me become more aware of my surroundings and different ways to clear a room. It also exposed to my weaknesses and some areas where I need improvement. Overall, I believe it was great training.

Some of my strengths are my willingness to learn and to take criticism constructively. I am a team player and a quick learner. I also perform well under pressure, and I can control myself. I believe that I conduct myself in a professional manner and I am self-sufficient.

Some of my weaknesses would be my lack of knowledge and experience. Since I am young and have only been at the Sheriffs Office for two years, I still have a lot to learn and experience, but I understand that this will change with time. I also do not have much tactical training aside from what I’ve learned in BLET and the in-service training I’ve attended.

I believe I would be a great candidate for the SRT team because I have always been a team player, and I am open-minded and willing to learn. I believe that I have what it takes to be a part of the team and I believe that I have the mindset to push through any challenges I may be faced with. I believe in health and fitness, and I work hard to keep myself in shape as I understand that this is important in police work and especially on the SRT team. I believe that with enough training, determination, and hard work, I will prove to be a great asset to the team, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to prove myself.

Thank you for your cooperation.
