3 Years 4 Months- Hempfield Area High School offered me the opportunity to work as the building substitute. Every day was a new role and a new adventure. This experience required me to, not only teach the subject and content area of my certification, English Language Arts, but to also teach a multitude of diverse curricula and implement innovative teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles. These included, but were not limited to: Physical Education, Business Administration, Organic and Biological Sciences, Computer Sciences, Special Education and Autism Support.
ACT Test Proctor
4 Months- The ACT exam is a standardized test similar the SATs. The main difference being that the ACT has a specific science evaluation were the SAT does not. These are tests given to high school students in preparation for college admissions.
Student Teacher
4 Months- Student teaching at Belle Vernon was my first experience designing my own lessons for my own classroom. Along with a tenured supervisor, I was co-teaching English Language Arts and Literature to students in the 9th and 10th grade. Vocabulary, grammar, literary studies and writing development were the primary focus of most lessons. Data driven instruction, as well as student observation and acknowledgment helped me design and deliver lessons that were both successful at teaching content but also in engaging the sometimes hard to reach young students.
