Skills

I began my career with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in July 2003, serving as a Correctional Officer at Calipatria State Prison (CAL) until July 2016, when I promoted to Correctional Sergeant In my role as Sergeant, I was responsible for supervising several Correctional Officers who worked under my leadership at the facility I ensured that Officers were held accountable for their conduct and assisted them in comprehending policies and procedures that enabled them to perform effectively in their roles As a certified Training for Trainers, I facilitated both formal and informal training sessions for custody and non-custody staff whenever possible While holding this certification, I sought additional training to improve my abilities as an Alarm Response Instructor, aiming to further educate staff Throughout my supervisory position at the facility, I honed my skills in actively recognizing patterns and gang factions engaged in illegal activities Additionally, I enhanced my communication skills, which enabled me to develop confidential informants to collect further intelligence

I had the opportunity to take a supervisory role in the Investigative Services Unit (ISU) as the Institutional Gang Sergeant, after spending some time as a yard Sergeant While working in ISU, I attended the Basic Investigators Course and immediately upon completion began investigation gangs During the investigations I would conduct surveillance, evidence gathering, and witness interviews to effectivity author a clear and concise report to effect an apprehension/arrest I attended monthly California Gang Task Force (CGTF) meetings and local law enforcement agencies meeting During this time, I developed solid working relationships with law enforcement Officers, Detectives, and gang investigators throughout Riverside, Imperial and Los Angeles County and surrounding counties, who have continued to assist me over the past several years

Also, I assisted the team with completing well over 200 gang validations in my tenure, as well as conducting debriefs of validated inmates Aside for my daily duties, I have assisted local, state and federal agencies with conducting a multi-agency sex offender compliance check, probation, parole compliance checks, warrant service, soft knocks, street level enforcement, surveillance, drone investigations, interviews, and gather intelligence to increase situational awareness It has also given me the opportunity to provide a special transport of a high risk incarcerated people out of CAL to an alternative institution

These assignments provided me with a wide range of training and experience in conducting investigations, gang management, interview techniques, evidence collection, narcotics testing, surveillance, informant cultivation, court room testimony and supervising staff to maintain safety and security of the institution My ability to apply departmental policy and in my everyday operations as Assistant Institutional Gang Gnvestigator, has prevented any litigation for unnecessary and/or excessive Use of Force and civil lawsuits I’m currently trained in the following: Training for Trainers (T4T), Basic Investigators Course (BIC), Alarm Response Instructor, Range Master, Institute of Criminal Investigation for Supervisors (ICI), Terrorist Liaison Officer, Certified Gang Enforcement Officer, Narcotic Identification Kit, and Castillo Training

I would like this opportunity to apply all of my skills, investigation, supervisory, and training experience, knowledge of prison culture and CDCR policies and procedures to a position within CDCR AIU My experience with outside law enforcement agencies and my network of available resources across the State will be an important asset and addition to AIU The qualities and experience I have, make me a well-rounded and strong candidate for a position as a Lieutenant within AIU Thank you for your consideration
