Company Overview: The Housing Justice Project provides free legal assistance including legal advice for tenants having problems with their landlords.
Help answering eviction paperwork 3 day, 5 day, 10 day, 20 day, and 30 day notices to evict tenant; also, distribute resource and referral information, no legal advice given by legal assistant and no legal advice over the phone;
Tenants will first talk to a legal assistant who will collect information: screen clients through HJP data base, copy documents, create a file and brief attorney on tenant eviction, pleading and notice preparation and filing for attorney’s;
Perform: faxes, emails, calls to sheriff, create a calendar for tenant, hold meeting with staff attorney’s, file documents w/ clerk, attend hearings, Docket research and conflict checks for next day show cause hearings, and participate in client interviews w/ other legal assistants;
Collaborating with attorneys to research legal issues using a wide variety of databases, Client intake interviews and case preparation with a wide variety of clients, including those with mental, physical and emotional challenges;
Training new legal assistants, King County Electronic Court Records system research, King County Bar Association legal server data entry
