• Planed, organized, and directed a facility containing inmates; in all aspects of program functions, classification, disciplinary and inmate care. Interpreted and carried out the policies of Department of Corrections and the institution. Supervised the maintenance of safe and sanitary living conditions within the Facility. Supervised and trained custody personnel in all aspects of prison management functions, including; security and escape prevention, classification and disciplinary actions, inmate care, Ad-Seg procedures. Made determinations on difficult custodial problems and consulted with other institutional custody staff for advice and assistance.
  Chaired or was a member of various committees such as classification, disciplinary, and ensures all decisions reached were consistent with departmental policy and regulations. Interviewed inmates to gather information; read evaluated, reviewed and processed all incoming appeals, CDCR 1824's, Staff Complaints, and correspondence. Screened all appeals in accordance with CCR 3084, DOM 54100 and SVSP DOM Supplement 54100. Responded to all correspondence within time frames designated by DOM. Completed second level reviews appeals for all appeals except parole period, time computation appeals, medical appeals and funds related to appeals. Reviewed and approved all proposed SLR appeal decisions. Generated statistical reports of inmate appeal activity, appeal trends, and other report necessary. Ensured Policies were complied with and notified appropriate staff when it was determined that policies were deficient or not being followed. Managed the day to day operation of the appeals office. Provided both for in-service training and informal on-site staff training on the appeals process. completed miscellaneous administrative duties in relation to the appeals process, including coordination outside entities (DAG, OIG, PLO, etc.).

Interviewed inmates to gather information; read, evaluated, reviewed, and summarized reports from a variety of sources to assist in classification of an inmate, or in development or modification of the inmate's program; wrote and prepared board reports to the Board of Prison Terms summarizing all data on the inmate, while making a prognosis for parole suitability; gathered, verified, and evaluated information in regard to enemy or gang affiliations between inmates, incidents, and requests made by the courts; interpreted and evaluated the inmate's central file for patterns of positive or negative behavior; wrote and prepared diagnostic evaluation reports on inmate for departmental review and for courts regarding recommendations for retention or parole of the inmate; recommended the level of institution to which the inmate will be assigned; wrote and prepared parole referral reports to the Board of Prison Terms and parole agents including recommendations and summarizations of the program needs and resources available to the inmate; made recommendations for placement of inmate in programs, determined the custody requirements of inmates on an ongoing basis and reevaluated the program needs of the inmate on an ongoing basis.

In a correctional institutional environment, disarms, subdues and applies restraints to inmates; respond to combat/emergencies; supervised the conduct of inmates; Completed stands watch on an armed post or patrols grounds; watcheed for illegal activity; wrote various reports; transported inmates; prevented escapes; conducted criminal and administrative investigations; maintained firearms and equipment; and performed non-custodial duties as a minor part of the custodial assignment.
