Provide high quality care for a wide variety of critical care patients, encapsulating all interventions within Critical Care RN scope of practice.
Participates in Code situations; BLS/ACLS/PALS and NIHSS Certified
Provide direct bedside care of patients suffering stroke, intracranial hemorrhage, sub-acute stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhages, brain tumors, and various neurological surgeries. Post-op care of neuro surgical intervention. Perform frequent in-depth neurological assessments on assigned patients. Manages arterial lines, central lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, all other invasive lines, continuous ECG monitoring. Trained in CRRT, IABP. Manages all pharmacological drips, including vasoactive/sedative drips.
Collaborates with physicians from all disciplines including Critical Care Team (MD/Fellow/Pharmacist) and Cardiothoracic Surgeons to provide/manage care for critically ill patients.
Collaborates with and educates patient/family as appropriate in a critical care setting. Provides end of life cares for patient/family as appropriate in a critical care setting.
Extracting blood from patients through venipuncture. Preparing specimens for transportation, including labeling vials accurately and matching blood specimens to patients. Ensure high quality, best technique and promptly collection as well as seeking for comfort and best care for the client.
Administering Immunizations and medicine injections. Ability to perform necessary signs for pediatrics. Document any immunization needed.Responsible for check to make sure that patient history is complete (i.e. immunization records, allergy to medications, health record updates, etc.). Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician. Obtain brief summary of patient complaint. Read previous visits to obtain follow-up plan as needed. Assist doctors in any necessary procedures such as giving injections or removing sutures. Perform sensory screening as needed. Fill out any necessary paper work for patients i.e. (school forms, medication forms). Working as a team with nursing and front office staff for optimal patient care. Assisting the doctor in emergency situations.
Skilled in accurate patient’s vital sign. Provide clinical and clerical support to assure smooth daily department operations. Assures that the patient and examination area is properly prepared. Assists physicians during examination and additional testing (EKG, in-house diagnostic testing), explains medical procedure to patients, collect laboratory specimens and sterilize medical instruments. Handles incoming call; call back for test results and medication pre-authorizations. Facilitates outside services for patients (radiology appointments, etc.)
Meet and greets patients, obtains appropriate patient information and medical history; accurately completes and documents patient medical and physical histories and other related items in Electronic Medical record (EMR). Records vital signs; performs EKG, Spirometry and or other similar office procedures.
Aids the physicians, extender, and or nursing staff during treatment, examination, and or testing of patients- include injections and immunizations. Prepare and maintains examinations/ treatment rooms, including inventory of supplies and equipment. Education and information for patient care, diagnostics, and other appropriate treatments;
Taking patient medical histories, updating patient medical files (EMR). Scheduling medical procedures. Maintaining GRITS documentation, administering Immunizations. Familiar with immunization schedule.
Taking blood pressure and body temperatures. Administering electrocardiograms. Instructing patients on proper usage of medications. Educating diabetic patients on diet and eating habit. Scheduling hospital admissions. Phoning in prescriptions to various pharmacies.
