Victor Mateo Torres

Located at the San Francisco Premium Outlets, my role is to manage the location and safety of the officers employed and the public. This position required myself to operate day to day operations, maintaining security protocol, and report to onsite incidents. As a supervisor, creating an environment that relies on trust is key, meaning there must be great teamwork, radio etiquette, patience, public communication, and keeping ourselves safe in environments when performing our tasks. Skills acquired from position are not limited to public security, customer service/communication skills, problem solving and prevention skills, operating a vehicle in all weather conditions, and incident reporting.

This position required me to learn safety and protective techniques to care for the building. As a security guard, I am trained to monitor all individuals within the building, using cameras and patrolling the entire property. Training included terrorist training, conflict de-escalation techniques, and data entry. As a guard for a location requiring 24/7 security, maintaining professionalism and awareness at all times is highly required in order to maintain safety for all individuals and equipment on property.

During spring in the year of 2024, I participated in a program named FLY, which stands for Fresh Lifelines for Youth for a full semester. This position was an unpaid internship that provided me face to face experience with juvenile school students that needed extra help with their education. The schools that are assigned to the program consist of juveniles that are constantly aggressive, under the influence, inattentive and unwilling to better themselves for the future. My role as an FLY class instructor was to provide new pathways to having long, successful lives. Our work mainly focused on the education of their rights. FLY understands that we can never fully change a student's opinion of the world, but we can teach them how to defend themselves using the law. Our practices included learning the amendments, what is considered consent, misdemeanor vs felony, behind the wheel safety, and self reflection. By providing an opportunity for students to participate in group work, games, and education allows us to provide them an opportunity of a lifetime, which is looking for a change.
