Accomplishments

  • Developed a quantitative analysis method for the rapid determination of V2O5 in carnotite bearing ores found in uranium mines on the Colorado Plateau.
  • Restructure and refinement of certificates of analysis on finished gasoline, diesel, and LPG. Successfully spearheaded Baytek VortalBliss LIMS acquisition and implementation. Exposed deficiencies in LPG reporting based on ASTM literature that was too restrictive on corrosion testing. Discovery resulted in significant cost savings in LPG sales and lack of required reprocessing.
  • Acquired over $4MM of laboratory instrumentation and equipment while with Sinclair Wyoming Refining Company.
  • Cultivated and transformed the Sinclair Laboratory into a quality enhanced laboratory through effective lab restructuring through a seek-to-understand management style.
  • Led a staff of ten laboratory employees in being the first laboratory manager to successfully achieve California DHS, Division of Laboratory Science, Environmental Laboratory Accreditation for EPA 6010B Title 22 metals, EPA 200.7 inorganic chemistry of wastewater and CALWET extraction for a total of 63 analytes within 4 fields of testing.
  • Developed a surface plasmon resonance-based biosensor for the detection of two tumor markers; human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 and prostate specific antigen found in carcinomas of the breast and prostate respectively. This quantitative method of analysis is capable of rapid detection when compared to conventional enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
  • Successfully built a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectrometer including instrument/computer interfacing (DAC) and AligentVee visual programming.
  • Proposed alternative biocides for microbial control of anaerobes and aerobes in large scale cooling towers resulting in a $125K/year cost savings.
  • Wrote Matlab code for theoretical simulations of SPR curves utilizing complex dielectric functions and multilayer dielectric thickness modeling using modified Fresnel equations.
  • Independently developed analytical methods, conducted data validation, directed, and trained laboratory personnel in the operation of a newly acquired Perkin Elmer ICP emission spectrometer during summer employment prior to entering graduate school.
