My story with Domestic violence
When I was 12 years old. My mother, sister and I were living through a difficult time that no family should go through. My father started physically abusing my mother.
After a few months, I started to notice the bruises on my mother’s body, then one day my mother locked us in the restroom when my father came home drunk. He got out of control and all we heard was my mother begging him to stop. I knew my mother needed help. The next day told my teacher that my mom was being abused and my father threatened to harm us too.
He was finally locked up and my mom started receiving the help she needed by the shelly shelter foundation.
The Immokalee shelter helped my mom and us get back on our feet. We received food, clothing and the resources needed to get back to the world again. My mom attended group meetings, classes and counseling. After a few years she was happy again.
In return of everything we were giving from this foundation, I would love to be part of this field area to help women and children. This will be my turn to help my community and work for a foundation that has purpose.
