I have over 30 years experience in the criminal justice system in Illinois. Sixteen years of that has been as a juvenile prosecutor. Though I have not worked in Marion County court, I am familiar with the county as this is my home county.
I was hired as a senior felony prosecutor. However about a year into my tenure a manager for the abuse and neglect unit was needed and I was the only one in the office with experience. With the help of another assistant we handled all the neglect and abuse cases until my retirement.
I was also in the rotation for charging and felony bond court.
I had an office in Lincoln, IL for the above listed time. During much of the time I was also an Assistant State's Attorney in Mason County.
In my practice, I handled general law practice cases. In addition, I was appointed by the court to represent parties in juvenile cases. Therefore, I handled the "defense" of parents and minors in those cases.
I closed the office when I accepted the Champaign County poisition.
This position was a full time part time position. Meaning that my hours allowed me to maintain the private practice while in this position.
My assignment was all juvenile cases, delinquency and abuse and neglect. as well as traffic. The State's Attorney was the only other person in the office so I backed him in Felony and misdemeanor cases also.
This position ended when the county abolished the position for financial reasons. The actual departure date may have been earlier in 2004, cannot remember.
I was hired into juvenile court. I handled all juvenile cases. After some period of time, about 5 years, I was given an assistant and I was assigned a small felony load along with the juvenile work.
I was also the attorney for the zoning board.
The State's Attorney, was appointed as an Associate Judge and the civil assistant was elevated to State's Attorney. He and I did not work together well and I left.
I joined the ISP in 1967. After 10 years, I asked for a leave to finish my education and it was denied. I quit the department and for 3+ years I managed an agri business.
In 1981 I was reinstated to the ISP and stayed for 3 years.
I have over 16 years of juvenile work in Illinois courts I have been retired since 2009 but I believe I can deal with any changes that have occurred in that time
I have handled all aspects of juvenile abuse and delinquency in several courts In all the different cases I have handled the decision making and petition decisions
