BIOLOGY SENIOR COMPREHENSIVE: 2013-2014
Saint Mary's College- Supervised by Dr. Reena Khadka
· Research: Comparison of Whole Cell Autolytic Activities of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)Isolates.
· I hypothesized that there will be a relationship between a bacterial cell wall strength and resistance to antibiotics.
· Research was performed on MRSA strains MM61, MM66-1, MM66-2, and MM66-5
· Performed antibiogram, Kirby Bauer test for antibiotic sensitivity. followed by cell wall lysis with Triton-x-100
· Research concluded that there was correlation between cell-wall thickness, strength and resistance to cell-wall active antibiotics.
· Successfully completed thesis paper and presented a poster presentation for the biology department.
PSYCHOLOGY RESEARCH: January- May 2013
Saint Mary's College- Supervised by Dr. Bettina Spencer
· Research: The Influence of education and Religiosity on Health Care Decisions
· I hypothesized that individuals with more education would prefer more innovative treatment options and individuals who identified as religious would opt for prayer or alternative medicines for treatment.
· Recruited 118 participants using social media platforms, school emails and passing flyers.
· Utilized Survey monkey to create questions of demographical information and vignettes with different medical scenarios.
· Religion and education were found have a significant main interaction effect on the choice of utilizing prayer with a significance of p < 0.05
· Successfully completed research methods and presented a poster presentation to the psychology department.
