  • Assist in operating the train on its assigned route. Operate hand-controlled rail switches, manual hand-wheel brakes, uncoupling levers, and remote control devices.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance activities around the train to improve performance and safety, including replacing heavy coupling and replacing broken knuckles or air brake hoses.
  • Maintain and enter records of price, product, weight, and customer name into computers. Generate bills of sale, dray tickets, and bills of lading.
  • Perform a variety of physical tasks. Assist with the loading/unloading and operation of the train, including breaking/making trains and using high-pressure water hoses, pry bars, and shovels.
