I worked alongside AGRintelligence professionals in soil sampling and analyzing field data in southwest Oklahoma and in parts of the Texas panhandle. My daily activities included driving at least 30-50 miles solo to take soil samples at grower's fields. This task is utilized through precision agriculture tools such as an electromagnetic soil sled to test the type of soil, then allowing our program to determine the best areas in a field to sample. The samples are taken at a specified depth and location, to then organize, box, and ship the samples to a lab to test for soil fertility, type, and structure. This data allows the farmer to know almost precisely what every field needs so that a sales representative can prescribe a certain chemical or fertilizer for individual needs. This internship not only allowed me to gain insight into precision agriculture but also provided valuable connections in the agrochemical sales world.
