Well I have always been an eclectic person, and poetry became a way for me to express what I found difficult to just talk about in conversation. When I realized everything didn't have to rhyme, it became even more exciting. It was such a passion that I published a book of my poetry, and hope to publish a couple others.
When I was in my undergrad, I picked up kite flying at the beach. It was the closest thing to flying I could come to. I now fly the stunt kites when I have the time, it is very relaxing to me.
Creating music and cooking kind of go hand in hand with me, both require some creativity. I learned how to cook from my mother first, then learned a lot of the technical things in culinary arts school, while I was in high school. The kitchen is a therapeutic place for me, and my slogan used to be "you buy, I fry." I even had the honor of creating my wife's wedding cake; first time ever making cheesecake, and everyone loved it.
In short, creativity can be the breathe of life that keeps us and others going.
I have lived with a disability all my life, and have a passion to help youth and families become what they desire in spite of their challenges. I hope to in the future interweave my experience in mental health and TBI with therapy. I became chronically aware of the lack of knowledge we have in our field for those who struggle in this area, without many counselors, therapist's or doctors realy knowing how to help effectively the individual and their families wholistically. I just want to help bridge that gap.
