Work History

Research Assistant

Department of Biomedical Engineering, Columbia University
04.2024 - Current
  • Project 1: "Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation: antibody producing bacteria encapsulation"
  • Aim to enhance E. Coli Nissle 1917 for safety and therapeutic production that can build bacterial systems for in vivo drug delivery in the context of implantable devices, for sustained antibody delivery
  • Participated actively in regular meetings with fellow researchers to discuss project updates, challenges faced, and lessons learned during ongoing activities.
  • Organized research materials, maintaining a well-ordered workspace conducive to productivity.
  • Design plasmid with desired payloads in producing full-length antibody, Fc- antibody, etc
  • Transformed plasmid into different engineered strain to achieve the goal in generating di-sulfide bond(dimer) between proteins (chains) translated from payloads
  • Western blot the resulting protein to check the functionality and availability of the di-sulfide bond
  • Project 2: "Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA): bacteria in diagnosis usage"
  • Engineered bacteria stain to produce different cytokine for various tumor diagnosis
  • In vivo study in mice - Grafting tumors and do I.T/ I.V. injection with engineered bacteria to track the colonization
  • Harvesting tumors and organs for efficacy and safety testing
  • Carry out ELISA assay to track cytokine production in engineered strains
  • Project 3: "Virus like particles"
  • In vitro - Performing transduction assay to testify the engineered virus like bacteria in cancer cell colonization
  • Ensure the viability of the cancer cell line

Research Assistant

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Union College
05.2022 - Current
  • Contributed in development of a simple yet versatile method to incorporate Al3+ into GO membranes formed via a slow self-assembly process
  • Added aluminum to acidic GO sheet solutions from variety of sources: Al2O3, AlCl3 and Al foil
  • Assisted with using X-Ray diffraction (XRD), optical microscope, Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Zeiss EVO Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) to determine structure of Al3+ modified GO membranes
  • Performed stirring test and ultrasound sonication to test property of the membranes after modification
  • Contributed in investigation of transition metal cation-modified GO membranes' surface morphology and roughness with optical and electron microscope analysis
  • Used XRD, FTIR, and Uv-Vis Spectroscopy to determine inner structure and conjugation within modified nanomaterials
  • Performed the stirring test and ultrasound sonication for stability characterization
  • Explored impact of transition metal with different valence electrons on the nanochannel of GO membrane through determining water vapor permeability and diffusion coefficient

Student Researcher

Department of Biology, Union College
10.2022 - 04.2023
  • Aimed to estimate future evapotranspiration in the boreal forest as they experience changing environmental conditions by developing a quantitative model of boundary layer exchange in bryophytes
  • Constructed scaled-down versions of artificial moss canopies that differ in surface structural features
  • Measured evaporation rates and conductance to water vapor across wind speeds and relative topographic position under controlled conditions in a wind tunnel of Dicranum scoparium
  • Scaled the micro-topography by using a sine wave computed from the 3D model of a field after geospatial analysis
  • Looking for a proper ecosystem process model to quantify the functional significance of canopy structure and local microtopography
