  • Designed and launched International Development Association (IDA) US$500 million Crisis Response Window Early Response Financing (CRW ERF) – first IDA financing modality that helps countries scale up early and anticipatory action to emerging food security crises
  • Lead operationalization of CRW ERF for food security crises by managing its technical review processes involving Country Management Units (CMUs), Regional Vice Presidencies (RVPs), World Bank Technical Expert Group on Food Security (TEGFS), corporate teams, and World Bank management
  • Lead food security crisis risk monitoring and quantitative trigger calculations for CRW ERF, covering 15 IDA countries across Africa, Latin America and Caribbean, and Middle East and North Africa
  • Represent FCV Group as part of World Bank's COVD-19 Food Security Core Team, contributing technical analyses and inputs for Bank-wide communications on emerging food security crisis risks
  • Established Famine Action Mechanism (FAM) – first global partnership of humanitarian and development partners dedicated to bolstering famine prevention, preparedness and early action

  • Raised funding for FAM's US$2.3 million budget by writing and successfully winning grants from Global Risk Financing Facility (GRiF), Korean Trust Fund (KTF), and State and Peacebuilding Fund (SPF)
  • Manage FAM's budget and coordinate related work programs for 10 staff and consultants
  • Oversee development of advanced data analytics, including experimental application of artificial intelligence and machine learning to enhance predictive power of famine early warnings in over 20 countries
  • Led feasibility study with major reinsurance companies – Aon, Munich Re, and Swiss Re – to explore applications of risk transfers and insurance schemes to provide financial protection against food security crises
  • Cultivate and manage partnerships with food security crisis technical leads across: donors (Canada, Denmark, EU, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, UAE, UK, US); UN agencies (FAO, IFAD, OCHA, UNDP, UNICEF, WFP, WHO); ICRC and IFRC; (I)NGOs (Action Against Hunger, Concern, Mercy Corps, Oxfam, Save the Children, START); and data institutions (CILSS, FEWS NET, IPC, UN Centre for Humanitarian Data)
  • Led development and execution of first Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between World Bank and United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
    Supported design and development of Global Crisis Risk Platform (GCRP) – World Bank's first strategic platform for identifying and mitigating multi-dimensional and compound crisis risks
  • Supported design and launch of Lebanon Financing Facility (LFF) – World Bank administered trust fund dedicated to supporting immediate recovery needs of poor and vulnerable households and businesses affected by port explosion in Beirut, Lebanon on August 4, 2020
  • Contributed to conceptualization and development of World Bank Group's Strategy for Fragility, Conflict, and Violence 2020-2025, especially on issues related to severe food insecurity and crisis risks in FCV settings
