Board Member, 01/01/18-Present. I've been a volunteer for this amazing non-profit throughout my life and they've become my second family. Matt Garcia of Fairfield, CA was the youngest city councilman elected at the age of twenty-one in the state of California in November 2007. Matt's dream involved supporting youth and creating safe spaces; to change a culture of violence and crime through youth involvement. Tragically, Matt's life was cut short, but his legacy, his work and his heart live on. As a board member, I participate in creating events for the youth so they can be empowered and rooted in positivity, and to create memorable, heart-warming experiences that will leave a lasting impression throughout their lives. I've found opportunities to be a mentor, speaking at schools, conducting presentations of change and choice, and volunteering to clean up my hometown of Fairfield California. Fortunate enough to be guided by the mentors in my life, I am constantly seeking ways to pay it forward.
I've been a visual artist my entire life (drawing, painting, and crafting) but I got into writing five years ago in 2018. Since then, I've been reading and writing short stories and comic book scripts with the single desire to improve my craft. Creating stories is a hair-pulling experience but the result always reminds me of why I thoroughly enjoy the art as well as the process.
