Summary

I am a highly motivated and passionate senior undergraduate at Emory University, with a focus in neuroscience research and computational analysis. My coursework includes a focus in neurobiology as well as computer science, advanced mathematics, and modern physics. The research I have been conducting for the last three years in bioengineered therapeutics for brain tumors has prepared me for future endeavors in biomedical engineering. This includes a great understanding of experimental design, extensive practice in data analysis and scientific writing, and a keen eye for interesting projects. I am eager to apply these skills and my driven personality to the expanding, groundbreaking work being done in high-level labs.

Work History

Research Assistant

Mokarram/Bellamkonda Lab
11.2022 - Current
  • Studying bioengineered therapeutics for Glioblastoma brain tumors via electrotaxis to stimulate cell migration towards safe, surgically operable areas of the upper cortex (in vitro, in vivo, and ex vivo)
  • Created several Python programs for analyzing spheroid and tumor movement in lab experiments, calculating geometric layouts of rat model tissue, and observing electrical stimulation on live tissue during surgery and experiments
  • Currently working on senior thesis to investigate non-invasive, electric field-stimulated movement (electrotaxis) of DIPG spheroids with image analysis from a self-designed, Machine Learning-based program
  • Presented in-progress research at the Emory Southeastern Medical Science Symposium in November 2023 and plan to present at the Emory Undergraduate Research Symposium in April 2025

Laboratory Assistant

Lawless Orthodontics
05.2023 - 08.2023
  • Designed 3D models of patients' dental molds and retainers for Invisilign dental adjustments using intraoral scanners, CAD software, and epoxy resin printers
  • Conducted OPG and CBCT x-rays on patients to analyze pre-appointment status of dental health and progress with treatment plans
  • Provided sterilized tools to dental assistants and setup their work stations to prepapre for appointments

Phlebotomy Technician

Med Center Health
05.2022 - 08.2022
  • Perfomed venipuncture and EKG tests on various patients across all sections of the hospital after receiving two months of thorough, standardized training/shadowing of lab staff
  • Analyzed blood samples and EKG readings both with in-lab equipment and with appropriate nurses, physicians, and surgeons on-staff at the time to discuss further patient treatment and care protocols

Student Organizations

Grey Matters Journal, Senior Editor

September 2022

  • Leader on the executive board for Emory undergraduate neuroscience journal that publishes once each semester
  • Oversee and guide a group of four (out of at least twelve) individual editors for a set of authors and their articles
  • Teach new editors and authors how to write in-depth yet approachable scientific articles via training seminars
  • Wrote an article during first semester detailing dissociation, dissociative disorders, and potential therapy for related symptoms
  • Assist the exec-board with planning our once a semester panel with lead researchers in STEM at Emory to provide crucial insight to interested students
  • Coordinate with other exec-board members and the general body to publish the journal on-time and spread awareness for the club

Emory Synapse, Vice President of Buddy Program

September 2022

  • Lead the main volunteering sector of Emory's TBI awareness and support-group organization
  • Assign TBI patients and undergraduates who apply for the program into pairs designed to facilitate an social and emotional support system for patients via regular outings and meetings
  • Plan larger events for buddy program pairs and general body members to meet other TBI patients while engaging in a fun activity; usually consists of a movie-watch party, coloring/painting, or boardgames
  • Originally assigned as a pair in the buddy program first semester, which inspired me to pursue a higher leadership role in the organization

SKY@Emory, Co-President

August 2024

  • Oversee all logistics, planning, and organization for the Emory chapter of a meditation, self-wellness, and personal development club for both students and faculty interested in improving leadership skills
  • Coordinate events and ideas for the club with faculty advisor Martha Betancur as well as attend weekly meetings
  • Participate in regular meditation and group-work sessions with the general body members, and spread awareness for the club events around campus
