I worked for the West Essex YMCA for 4 years as an After Care Counselor at Lester C. Noecker Elementary School in Roseland, New Jersey and as a Summer Camp Counselor, as well. During those hours, I supervise and tend to children ranging from Kindergarten to 6th grade. I apply leadership skills as well as communication skills while teaching the children fun and new games to explore or helping them with their homework. Problem-solving comes into effect when I have to figure out a way to discipline a child when they misbehave. I communicate well with my co-workers in scheduling the day, making suggestions of my own and often including suggestions from others. I take into account how the children are feeling throughout the day and plan activities accordingly, as well as, following up with the parents if their has been a problem or their child wasn't feeling like themselves during the day. Working as an After Care Counselor and Group Leader has taught me compassion, leadership and professionalism, all qualities I can apply into the Nursing field.
