
Sam Mitchell is an accomplished Work Leader with 30 years of Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard contacts who offers a solid Machinist and Mechanic education with extensive experience and a record of performance in quality repairs, team work and employee training. Sam was the only Sail System specialist that Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard sent to Bahrain for a month to do sail repairs on the USS Hartford. He received a letter of Appreciation from Rear Admiral Brady for his technical skills as a master craftsman for that emergency repair job. Sam is recognized as an innovative employee who has leadership skills in safety, mentoring and troubleshooting. Significant qualifications include having extensive trade skills and on the job training in submarine repair process. Sam also has good facilitation and coordination skills. He has represented employees in performance evaluations, disciplinary action, drug, alcohol & credit counseling. IIe's a union expert in the use of community assistance programs, privacy act, family leave and medical act standards, medical retirement process, Civil Service Retirement System & Federal Employees Retirement System, National Security Personnel System, Thrift Saving Plan, Federal Workers Compensation, Security Clearance Adjudication, Office of Special Council, Ilatch Act and Department of Navy & Defense rules, polices and regulations. IIe has filed and represented numerous employees in unfair labor practices charges, merit system protection board appeals, equal employment opportunity cases, mediation, arbitration and grievances for more then twenty years. Mr. Mitchell is an expert in troubleshooting and testing of Submarine Sail Systems and is experienced in hazardous material control; safety and oil spill clean up. He is qualified by the Navy to supervise and teach Marine Machinery Mechanics. And has assisted shop planner and engineers in diagnosing submarine equipment problems, repair scheduling and ordering parts. As a work leader he lays out the job, does work sequence and setting priority on established schedules. He has maintains control of test and lifting equipment and had inventory control over a variety of lifting straps, mast clamps and sail platforms. He conducts briefings and answering questions on procedures, policies, and directives for 15 or more mechanics and apprentices. Sam demonstrate and answer questions on shipyard work procedures and set the required pace to finish assigned work on time and within cost. Daily Sam checks job statues with his employees and other shops. Also report back to management any unforeseen problems with the material and work requirements. Ensure work crew is busy with assigned duties and that they have the proper tools and a safe working area. Sam works well in large and small teams through the use of flexibility, open communication and compromises. He serves as a role model to colleagues by participating in Lean & Safety committees, pursuing professional training and education, as well as being open to questions and concerns from coworkers and management.
