Volunteer Experience

I have volunteered as a counselor in rehabs, halfway houses, homeless shelters, and chemical dependency programs. I have hands on experience working with refugees that have been displaced in this country with nothing to their name I’ve helped them transition into their new communities and cultures by aiding them in learning the English language, and/or going back to school. I have helped them obtain jobs, homes, and any kind of assistance that they may have needed or qualified for. I have volunteered as a CNA at a hospice to aid with the elderly, and the terminally ill. I was a volunteer camp counselor who worked with the mentally and physically disabled, helping teach coping mechanisms while encouraging their daily involvement with their communities. I have several years of experience with both nonprofit organizations, as well as organizations that work with the disabled. I have also opened my home to children within the CPS program and been a foster mother to a handful of adolescent children. My education in human service, mental and behavioral health, substance abuse counseling, as well as hands on experience and knowledge of mental illnesses, the disabled, and my history in the medical, administrative, and human services field all contributed to my accomplishments within my volunteering background and experience.
