Student Teaching Experience

Avon Public Schools: Roaring Brook School, Thompson Brook School (1/17/2024-3/08/2024)

Cooperating Teacher: Nathaniel Strick

Pedagogical understanding: Feierabend conversational solfege (hearing, feeling, seeing, labeling) and student abilities related to this sequence

  • Helped several students with technique or literacy challenges where students can have more attention and work with their specific strengths and weaknesses. Also helped kids through peer teaching.
  • Utilized Conversational Solfege as it uses auditory, kinesthetic, and visual skills that help every students (regardless of strengths and weaknesses) achieve their best. Some students need more support with organization, balancing responsibilities, and other executive functions.
  • observed 2 student examples where we communicated with their classroom teachers (and parents) to help them be successful in these areas.
  • Taught students through a specific literacy sequence. Even with this specific sequence lessons students will encounter challenges and this effects pacing. Active learning is promoted through careful planning and participation in sequenced activities such as echo patterns, improv, decoding, applying literacy repertoire, and reflecting.
  • Learned about intrinsic and extrinsic motivators. Intrinsic motivators include mastery, autonomy, and purpose. Reflected on my own motivators and what motivates specific students. In every lesson I informally assessed student understanding through closure questions, proximity, echo patterns, improv, and student monitoring.
  • Utilized all four National Core Arts Standards in each lesson that was planned and taught

Mansfield Public Schools: Mansfield Middle School (3/11/2024-5/3/2024)

Cooperating Teacher: Lindsey Clark
