Facilitate breastfeeding support virtually and in-person on daily basis for new and experienced mothers.
Evaluate breastfeeding infants, recognizing and addressing complications, such as weight-loss, tongue-ties with families and providers, and coordinating treatment with other members of care team.
Prioritize needs of up to 20+ mother/baby breastfeeding couplets.
Educate families on infant feeding frequency, length of feedings, and nutritive vs. non-nutritive sucking.
Assist mothers with different breastfeeding positions.
Evaluate need for supplementation.
Demonstrate to mother's hand expression for collection of colostrum and breast milk.
Demonstrate and educate families in use of assistive feeding devices, such as syringe feedings, cup feedings, supplemental nursing systems.
Assess mothers for breast problems, including engorgement, plugged ducts, mastitis.
Provide assistance to patients in obtaining breast pumps through private insurance or medical assistance.
Provide education and assistance to patients on how to use their breast pumps, as well as breast milk storage.
Provide necessary health education training for patients, such as benefits of breast feeding, and risks of medications or lifestyles in relationship to breastfeeding.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with families and area health care providers.
