Accomplishments

From ages 7 to 13, I rode hunter jumpers and competed in several local show circuits. I showed my thoroughbred and worked my way up to earning Reserve Champion in rated shows across the Triangle area. As I grew older, I developed a desire to try something new and, at 15, began exploring eventing and cross-country. This marked the beginning of my passion for training horses.

Working closely with my eventing trainer, I started a young horse in dressage and jumping. Over time, I saw the progress we made together, which solidified my goal of pursuing a career in the equine industry. My pony, Chip, and I began at the “green as grass” level and advanced to maiden-level competitions, including shows at the Carolina Horse Park in Southern Pines, North Carolina.

After graduating high school, I chose to attend Martin Community College because it aligned perfectly with my passion for horses. My time there has opened many doors. During a field trip, Lawson Walston took my classmates and me to Colonial Downs Racetrack, where we toured the facility and observed racehorses up close. This experience sparked my interest in thoroughbreds and the racing industry. Speaking with Lawson about his years of experience on the track further inspired me to pursue a similar path.

In addition, I had spent my summers and weekends working at the barn where I board, which has strengthened my confidence and expanded my knowledge of horse care and management.
